This model is based on the design from the Batman ’89 Comic Series as drawn by Joe Quinones.
Given that it’s combining aspects from the 1989 and 1992 Batsuits I’ve decided not to reinvent the wheel when overhauling it recently, but to instead combine bits and pieces from the other batsuit models I’ve made, with a unique cowl ontop, to get the desired look and this seems to have been a good decision.
Naturally I’ve improvised a bit on the cowl to give it some details and shapes that set it apart from the 1989 and 1992 cowls. The “visor eyes” as I like to call them were somewhat difficult to get right, but eventually I ended up with the glassy, curved look they have now, since that seemed like a good way to make them more appealing in a realistic visual style rather than just having them be flat, glowing planes. The Fresnel falloff was pretty much just the final touch to give them a somewhat more dynamic behaviour based on the view angle, and it certainly helps with selling the almost holographic-glassy look.
One of the more challenging parts was the shading on this suit, since I wanted to recreate the distinctive but subtle purple sheen it seems to have. I ended up achieving this by expanding my anisotropy solution to allow proper tinted Fresnel ramps as well as tinted anisotropic highlights and luckily all of that worked out quite well.
